Spanish Head-Fakes

Many times, in China, I find God doing total “head-fakes” where I expect things to go one way and they end up playing out another way.  That was the situation today.  I expected frogs and I got black flies.  (Note: frogs are better.)  I thought I had missed the man in a van with the wax stamps, but he showed up today.  I had hoped to see Kim; instead, I met Carol.

Today really started the Camino for me.  I left the last big city and headed for the mountains.  Tonight, I am staying in the small town where I got to read at the service last year.  I plan on attending the service again this evening.

Last year I got my first wax stamp from a guy in a van who was parked at the hospital where I stayed.  I loved the idea of the very unique stamp in my passport.  Today I was surprised to see him parked along the trail doing his wax-stamp thing.  He has totally upped his game and has more, very impressive stamps!  It was his inspiration that led me to bring my own stamp.  Last night I had given a few folks a stamp and today he was nervous that another vendor was doing the same thing.  I showed him my simple stamp and got a lovely picture of him with Dave.

The one albergue that I had hoped to stay in is called The Stone Boat and the proprietor is a lovely woman named Kim.  We only had a short conversation last year, but she impressed me and I was looking forward to seeing her again this year.  However, her place is now a writing center and she no longer rents rooms to Pilgrims.  When I went to find her, I met her friend Carol who had just arrived.  We had wonderful chat and she promised to pass along my glass necklace to Kim.

It was a good day on the Camino.  Thank you, Debbie, for your companionship while walking today!
