The early Pilgrims get the lower bunk beds
I am generally an early morning person, especially when the folks around me are stirring. So, when the pilgrims start packing at 6:00AM, I will be right in the mix. As I have mentioned before, I love the early morning on the trail while the birds and critters are still out.
However, once I start walking, I am now trying to slow down and enjoy the time that I have here. Others seem to be racing to complete the day for better bed selection or other reasons, I guess. Today there were a few spots where I took extra time to just enjoy, because tomorrow I expect the experience to change.
I am now in Sarria where many people start their Camino journey. This is 114 KMs from Santiago and you need at least 100 KMs to get your certificate. So, if it is like last year, the trail will be crowded tomorrow. It is fun in a different way, but also challenging at times. This picture is a good example of what I can expect tomorrow.
Sarria is also a logical place to jump off the Camino. Yesterday we lost an injured pilgrim who took a taxi here and then headed home. Today my friend Debbie ended her Camino in Sarria as she had already done the final stretch before. It was fun walking with you, Debbie! Hope to see you on The Porto next year.
Only five more days per my current ETA.
Soon
I will be back in Barcelona and then Seattle…
